I imagine it as a knot: coarse strings, different lengths and weights, coiled haphazardly together into a dense mass. If you were to bisect it with a very sharp knife, you could see the layers, building upon each other. You’d be able to follow the entanglements until they disappear into hidden places, the origins unreachable. You’d be holding two separated halves.
